The children suffering

Ofsted’s second report into the impact of the pandemic finds that children who were hardest hit by school closures and restrictions have regressed in some basic skills and learning
Some young children, who were previously potty-trained, have lapsed back into nappies, particularly those whose parents were unable to work flexibly
Older children have lost stamina in their reading and writing, some have lost physical fitness, others show signs of mental distress, including an increase in eating disorders and self-harm
Concerns remain about children who were out of sight during school closures, with falling referrals to social care teams raising fears that domestic neglect, exploitation or abuse is going undetected

So it's school's place to potty train and take kids for a walk now and again it it?

Fuck me, the things you learn on here.

Written no doubt by some overzealous politicly correct type, didn’t read it but odds on it will all be the fault of our western civilisation with a good dose of racism and gender inequality as core issues.

Re: The children suffering
Im old enough to remember back at the start of this when Boris wanted to keep schools open and the teaching unions made him shut them, supported by howls from the left about how evil the tories were for putting teachers and children at risk.

Re: The children suffering
I heard on the radio a claim that some children having been at home have forgotten how to use a knife and fork.
Can someone explain how that could possibly be so?

Re: The children suffering
Couldn't this just have been added to the existing Coronavirus thread to stop the same argument happening in two places at once?

Re: The children suffering
Hardly news, its affecting everyone in the world

why would it not affect kids?

Not sure i believe kids forgetting how to use a knife and fork mind........seems like a typical Corona sensationalist bullshit story

All to do with bad parenting. Just like these "starving" kids. Wonder how many of their unemployed mothers will have the iphone 12 though...

Yep down the lazy arse parents, Everyone is in the same boat
so it's the effort the parents actually put in to minimise anything like this starting to happen.

My son & daughter have coped well and are doing well.

Re: The children suffering
Of course the parents are the root course of the problem. However, the covid measures and closures of schools has contributed.

Lots of children living in poverty rely on the system to make up for the failings of their parents. For me its clear the system is letting them down regardless of who is to blame.

Whilst mine certainly have been able to keep up using a knife and fork and haven't gone back to wearing nappies, the whole thing is starting to impact their progress. That's a simple fact.

This saving of the 0.03% is not going too well is it...
